Whole focus in Jainism is on how do 'I' avoid karma bandhan. We do not and can-not do anything good or bad to others (unborn in this case). We can only be a nimitta for good or bad. Anything we can do is to ourselves only. We hurt others but karm bandh happen to us. So, the assumption that we will do a favor to unborn by abortion is faulty. The unborn will still remain in this world and because of our worng placed belief, he/she lost a chance to be born as human, who is the only hope for karm nirjara. That unborn will suffer more and more in the same world as her/his chance to human form was lost. And as we became nimitta, we will have very serious karm bandhan too.
Caring for your true self without falling into trap whether you are doing good or bad by bringing another soul to human form ( because the other soul is indepentent of you and you cannot do any good or bad. Just let him/her be). Second best is never ever to encourage abortion as the poor soul looses one in a million chance to be born as human. I know one digember sadhu, who was eighth son of his parents. Had his parents aborted him, how much that child would have lost. The key is that you take care of only your true self. That will best for all 'others' too.
